Getting a Visa New Zealand

There are 2 main types of visa for entry into New Zealand. A Working Holiday Visa and a Tourist Visa. In order to work legally in New Zealand you must have a valid New Zealand Visa.

Working Holiday Visa

If you are a resident in one of the countries listed below you are able to apply for a Working Holiday Visa in New Zealand:

Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaya, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, UK, USA and Uruguay.

A Working Holiday Visa allows you to:

  • Travel and work for a period of up 12 months.
  • UK citizens have an option to travel and work for a period of 12 months or 23 months.
  • Citizens of Malaysia and Singapore are entitled to work and travel for a period of up to 6 months.
  • Leave and re-enter New Zealand multiple times whilst your visa is valid

In order to obtain a Working Holiday Visa you must:

  • Be between 18-30 years of age (at the time of applying)
  • Apply within the 12 months before you are travelling to New Zealand
  • Prove that you have a method of leaving the airport (plane ticket)
  • If you do not have proof of an air ticket you will be asked to provide a bank statement to prove you have sufficient funds to purchase a ticket.
  • You will need to show evidence of medical insurance
  • For UK citizens applying for a 23 month visa you will be required to undertake a medical exam and show medical certificates.

Tourist Visa

For most visitors you are not required to apply for a visa in order to visit New Zealand for a period of up to 3 months (6 months for UK citizens) for leisure purposes.
