Toronto CN Tower Wikipedia
Restaurants with that little bit of something different or restaurants that give you an experience as well as your meal and wine are always going to attract the masses. It comes as no surprise that a restaurant that is located very high in the sky is going to be popular. Undeniably you will get unrivalled views of the area you are dining in, but I have to say you need to be ok with heights for some of these restaurants and dining experiences.
However, these high dining experiences are all awesome and will have you sobbing in to your same old salad or no longer novel noodles and longing for that handsome man to come and whisk you off for a dinner you will never forget.
Top Ten Really High Restaurants - some of the best high dining experiences in the world:
1. Top of the World Restaurant in Las Vegas It's Las Vegas, there has to be a novelty high dining experience and it has to be in the world famous stratosphere. If you are not brave enough to hit the stratesphere rides then a calming glass of wine in the revolving restaurant will suffice. The restaurant rates pretty highly for its food also so seeing as your in Las Vegas...
2. Piz Gloria in Switzerland The world's first revolving restaurant and it's on a mountain bringing a whole new style to apres-ski (or only-ski in my book).
3. Metro-Alpin Restaurant Switzerland By simply only out-doing themselves Switzerland is now home to the highest revolving restaurant in the world, again on a mountain. That has got to be pretty spectacular.
4. Orbit Restaurant in Auckland Not really as high as some of its world rivals but Auckland City isn't particularly full of high rises so the Skytower iconically stands out in the city sky line. With the Orbit restaurant located at the top diners get to eat above everybody else in Auckland, with nothing else coming even close.
5. Sirocco Restaurant in Thailand The world's largest all open air restaurant. There are only so many places in the world that this kind of restaurant can be successful but Thailand is definitely one of them. It may be expensive but is it not the coolest place ever?
6. Dinner in the Sky These are scarily cropping up everywhere, you eat whilst suspended in the sky as your dinner is cooked in front of your eyes. I see the novelty in it but really what happens if you need to pee?
7. Tan Hill Inn in England This proper English pub is 528m above sea level and gives you real ale and hearty English grub. Without fail, the best value high restaurant you will ever come accross.
8. Equinox Restaurant in Singapore Singapore had to have one really didn't they. Not to be outdone by anyone else, the Equinox Restaurant stands tall above Singapore and the bright lights in the style of an old school amphi-theatre. If you don't want to splash out for a meal there, try the high tea in the afternoon. At least then you can say you did it.
9. 360 Degrees Restaurant at the CN Tower in Toronto Another revolving restaurant located 351m up in Toronto's CN tower - it really does look lush. The best bit for me that makes this restaurant stand out is that it is the proud home to the world's highest wine cellar. Who cares what the food is like when they have the world's highest wine cellar.
10. The Freedom Tower in New York Ok, so it doesn't actually exist yet but the Freedom Tower is set to open in 2013 with a restaurant allowing diners views of New York City. There are plenty of high dining experiences in New York but I reckon the Freedom Tower will be a special one as the iconic tower will offer a humbling yet true-to-form New York style experience.
If you have been lucky enough to experience any or all of these high restaurants then let me know! However, even one of these high dining experiences would be pretty cool so face your fears and eat your dinner high in the sky looking down on the rest of the world.
